Police declare herbalist wanted for treating robbers

THE Enugu State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a herbalist who specialises in treating wounded armed robbers.
Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who disclosed the development, said armed robbers, who were injured in clashes with security operatives, usually approach the unnamed herbalist to treat bullet wounds.
Amaraizu explained that the herbalist was operating a clinic at Orba, a town in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The suspect and members of his gang were robbing motorists along the Enugu/Markurdi expressway on June 18, 2016 when security operatives engaged them in a gun duel.
According to Amaraizu, the gang waylaid vehicles by placing heavy logs of wood on the expressway, after which they dispossessed motorists and passengers of their valuables, including cash.
Ugwu was eventually apprehended in the herbalist’s clinic, where he was treating bullet wounds on July 1, 2016.
However, the herbalist was said to have escaped before the police stormed his clinic.
Amaraizu said the man had not returned to the clinic since then, maintaining that the police were on the herbalist’s trail.
The police spokesman added that the wounded robbery suspect, Ugwu, currently in detention, had been answering questions from operatives as part of further investigations into the case.
