MY CLASS TEACHER WROTE IN MY REPORT CARD THAT AM A BORN COMEDIAN - Comedian Mc Twenty Two

A popular comedian and a master compere, Jemilola Williams popularly knows as Mc Twenty Two. in an interview granted by him with our correspondent, gave a full account of his life career and his perspective about Ibadan comedy show and the people of Ibadan. He also highlighted how he started comedy.

see below his conversation with him and our correspondent:

Tell us a bit about your background: growing up and early memories of family life?

Am Jemilola Williams, am from a family of 3, my mum, my brother and I.

So how was your growing up like?

It wasn’t easy, my growing up was rough, because  it was my mum that brought me up. I stayed with my grandma when I was a baby, later when I grew up to age 13 years, I went back to my mum. That time it was hell because it was me and my younger brother.

At what point did you discover comedy?

Hmmmm, when I was in pry 1, because that time I dey disturb my class, and that time my class teacher wrote it in my report card that am a born comedian. So I never pay attention to it, until when I pass out from secondary school, and I met Solid my boss.
How do you come about the name “22”?

(laughs) ……… this name was given to me when I went for an examination that year, it was GCE that year, I did not read at all , so that fateful day, a girl was sitting beside me, so I was doing copy and paste, you know now, it was English objective that day. So I copied the girl from no 1 to 11, and this girl discover that I was doing copy and paste, so she cover her booklet, so I tried to copy from no 11 again this girl saw me and she shouted Hmmmm 22 22, after the exam when the girl saw me, she shouted hmmm 22 22 22. Then a week after we went to sew cloth for a particular party, everyone went to the tailor, (Solid, Peteru and I), when the tailor measured my head it was 22 inches. Since then I decide to pick that as my stage name.

What year did you climb stage as a professional comedian and how was the experience?

2008, it was Jesus carnival @ NTC road, it was stressful that year because its my first year personally, because when I started, I do collabo with my boss, but that year it was me alone on stage to anchor that programme and it was a street programme so it wasn’t easy at all.

How did your mom feel about your decision?

She has been supportive since I started, because my mum is also a comedian. She so funny, my first comedy programme, she was there and she killed the show. She has been there for me.

How can you compare Lagos comedy to Ibadan comedy show?

Hmmmm, Ibadan comedy show is not easy; you make more sense in Lagos. Lagos comedy show makes sense and they get package, den Lagos people they supportive and they appreciate talent a lot. Ibadan comedy show is just coming up, thanks to some of the bosses in this industry like Laff’Up, Gbenga Adeyinka d 1st, the our own personal person, Peteru that broke the jinx.

But why did most artists in Ibadan go to Lagos for greener pasture?

Because Lagos people appreciate a lot, especially if you are gifted.

Who are your mentor in this comedy industry

Mc Solid and Bovi.

Do you think you are there?

No, am not, am just starting.

Where did you see yourself in 5years?

I see myself winning souls for Christ through comedy throughout the whole world.

So you do gospel comedy more than circular?

Yes, I’m a gospel comedian, I don’t go to club.

How do you manage critics, from your colleague in the industry that do gospel and circular?

I don’t care what they say about me, all I care is what God says about me.
